“What’s Going On There?”

So the other day we were getting our clubs out of the trunk as another couple was loading theirs back into their car. Small talk about the gorgeous weather turned to curiosity when the man saw our minimalist bags.

“You’ve only got three clubs! What’s going on there?”

Kieran launched into his spiel, which runs a little something like: “We call what we play ‘folk golf.’ We only carry a few clubs. We always walk. We don’t keep score. We enjoy the beautiful scenery and the birds. We don’t hit the ball far, but we generally hit it straight. And we have a great time.”

And after a few questions about WHICH clubs we carry (KK takes a hybrid 7, a pitching wedge, and a putter; I take a hybrid 7, a 9 iron, and a putter), the couple were intrigued. The guy said, “Huh, that makes a lot of sense. Three clubs! I’m gonna have to try that.”
